Online Benchmark Running Records

An online running record is a time-saving method of assessing a student's reading performance using a recorded passage the student sends to your "In Basket." Use Running Record assessments to:
When used in conjunction with a recorded Retelling and a multiple-choice Comprehension Quiz, running record reading passages and books provide teachers with a more complete picture of their students' reading abilities and better monitors students' progress.
Assigning a Running RecordClick on the "Assignments" tab at the top of the screen. Next click on the "Assessment" tab. Choose Assign a Running Record. To complete the assignment, follow the three steps below.
Select a student from the drop down menu.
The menu displays your student roster.
Select the reading level you want to assess.
Select the book or passage you want to assign.
(A recorded Retelling and Comprehension Quiz are automatically assigned for the passage or book you select.)
The next time the student logs into Raz-Kids.com they will go directly to the assigned benchmark running record.Note: You will only be able to assign one running record assessment per student at a given time.
Scoring a Running Record
The Running Record ScorecardScorecard formulas are automatically calculated based on recording length and errors you have marked.
Expressed as a ratio using the following formula: total words / total errors
Expressed as a ratio using the following formula: (total errors + total self corrections) / total self corrections
Expressed as a percentage using the following formula: (total words - total errors) / total words * 100

1Some teachers may choose to instruct students at a level in which they have scored lower than 90 percent, but generally will not instruct using texts in which students score below 85 percent.
